MAY 2 01983 MEMORANDUM FOR:

Chairman Palladino Comissioner Gilinskyw' Comissioner Ahearne Comissioner Roberts Comissioner Asselstine l ~-

FROM::

William J.' Dircks

~

Executive Director for Operations s

SUBJECT:

IMPLICATIONS OF SALEM EVENT, PART I On completion of the first part of the staff's review of the generic implications of the Salem event, it has been the staff's intention to provide the Comission with a paper / briefing which would describe staff actions undertaken as a result of the findings of Part I.

Various activities have impacted the development of this work. However, I believe that a paper describing the actions to be taken, and an accompanying rationale will be completed by June 20. Necessary resource adjustments and intra-staff coordination will have been completed by then.

An ACRS briefing, if appropriate, will probably follow.
