SUBJECT:
THREE MILE ISLAND UNIT 1 (TMI-1); STATUS OF STAFF ACTION ON THE UNION OF CONCERNED SCIENTISTS (UCS) 2.206 PETITION ON TMI-1 EMERGENCY FEEDWATER SYSTEMS The purpose of this memorandum is to advise the Comission of the status of the staff's remaining actions on the UCS 2.206 Petition on the TMI-1 Emergency Feedwater(EFW) system.
On January 20, 1984, the UCS filed a Petition for Show Cause Concerning TMI-1 l
In the " Interim Director's Decision Under 10 CFR 2.206, "DD-84-12, dated April 27, 1984, the UCS request with respect to four of the five basic deficiencies with the EFW system cited in the Petition were denied at that time.
The Comission requested the staff, in a memorandum from the Commission's Secretary dated April 4,1984, to complete action on the remaining portion of the Petition and issue a final decision as soon as possible, but not later than May 30, 1984.
Due to deficiencies recently identified by the staff during its review of the TMI-1 EQ program, and the corresponding need for additional information from the licensee, we will be unable to meet the Comission's request for a final decision by May 30, 1984.
