WiiEREAS, Borogh Council has been advised, and has giveh. doe consideration to the fact that nuclear generating plants entail a risk of'h:cident.a1 emergencies

involving releases of toxic radioactive materials into the itstMiphere, with  !

consequent potential for short and long term human health effects; and l WHEREAS, an ingestion zone of 50 miles from the Limerick plant has been established  ;

by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Comission within which use of water and i agricultural products can be interdicted, and from which persons other than '

emergency workers may be., excluded under emergency procedures; and WHEREAS, Borough CouncilLhas been advised that the United States Nuclear Regulatory Comission has warned of possible lethality to a distance of 25 miles from the plant, and that the United States Nuclear Regulatory Comission has ,

estimated.that persons from that 25 mile area may reasonably seek to evacuate into, and through, the 50 mile ingestion zone; and

' WHEREAS, Borough Council has been advised that although New Hope Borough is within 50 miles of Limerick, no plans have been made or are being made, for evacuation of, or other 4emonstrably effective protection for, the citizens of

, or transients within the Borough of New Hope in the event of a disaster at Limerick; and WHEREAS, Borough Council has been informed that the Bucks County Comissioners have primary res of Pennsylvania,ponsibiljty under for providing the Emergency for emergency situations Management in Bucks Act of the Comonwealth County; L NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED;

_ That Borough Council of New Hope' Borough request the Bucks County Comissioners to make appropriate plans for the evacuation of. citizens including the multitudes of visitors to New Hope, or other demonstrated effective protective measures, in the event of an emergency at Limerick, and provide appropriate information to Borough Council to reassure the residents of New Hope that such plans have been made;
