in the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, Robert N. C. Nix Building, Courtroom No. 4, 2nd Floor, 9th and Market Streets, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19107.

The conference is called pursuant to the Order of the l Commission of May 5, 1989 calling for a Licensing Board to conduct proceedings to consider the contention of Limerick Ecology Action that in order to comply with its obligations under the National Environmental Policy Act, the agency must consider l certain design alternatives for the mitigation of severe accidents at the Limerick Generating Station. The Commission further ordered that litigation of the contention should be limited to those mitigation alternatives identified by the Appeal 8905220068 DR ADOCK890516 0500035g von pos

2 Board as being supported with the required basis and specificity in ALAB-819, 22 NRC 681, 693-4(1985).

The Commission action was taken in furtherance of an opinion issued February 28, 1989 by the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit granting a petition for review filed by Limerick Ecology Action. Limerick Ecolony Action v. NRC, Nos.

85-3431, 86-3314, 87-3508, slip op. at 76.

The following matters will be considered:

(1) Simplification, clarification, and specification of the issues; (2) The obtaining of stipulations and admissions of fact and of the contents and authenticity of documents to avoid unnecessary proof; (3) Identification of witnesses and the limitation of I

the number of expert witnesses, and other steps to j expedite the presentation of evidence;

(5) Such other matters as may aid in the orderly ,
