SCOPE This procedure describes the measures to control the verification and maintenance of "public domain" computer programs.
A list of the commercial public domain programs subject to the controls of this procedure are shown in Exhibit B.
II.
RESPONSIBILITIES The Project Administrator shall be responsible for the
- control, maintenance and distribution of computer program documents.
III.
DEFINITIONS A.
User Bureau - A company which supplies computer hardware and associated software for general public use.
B.
User Manual - Computer program documentation which describes the application and step-by-step instructions for using the computer program.
IV.
PROCEDURES A.
MGJEC policy shall be to provide a validation check of User Bureau supplied programs.
A validation check will involve review of User Bureau Program documentation, including testing and results verification.
User Bureau maintained computer programs are commercially available in the public domain and are frequently recognized within the industry as having suffiqient history of use to establish their general validity and applicability.
These ' programs are subject to results verification by all user bureau clients.
B.
Distribution of user manuals and associated updates shall be controlled within MGJEC by a Computer Program Manual Quality Assurance Cover Page (Exhibit A).
C.
Error notices supplied by the User Bureau shall be distributed to all MGJEC personnel using computer programs, and posted in user manuals.
In cases where a program error may result in a design or analysis discrepancy, the Project Manager shall be notified.
The Project Manager shall initiate corrective actions required.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION A.
Documentation of user bureau validation check shall be retained as part of the Quality Assurance records in accordance with the applicable portions of ATP-1-0.
