Docket No. 50-285

Dear Mr. Seidle:

Installation of HPN and EN5 Telephones in the Fort Calhoun Station Permanent Technical Support Center (TSC)

The Omaha Public Power District is presently in the process of completing the necessary work to the permanent TSC prior to declaring it operational . The District intends to utilize the permanent TSC during the upcoming annual emergency exercise scheduled for the middle of September, 1982. To permit the utilization of the TSC for this exercise requires the installation of a Health Physics Network (HPN) telephone in Room #107 and an Emergency Notification System (ENS) telephone in Room

  1. 113 of the TSC. It should be noted that NUREG-0696 recommends that these telephones be located in the "NRC consultation room." However, per a July 30, 1982 telephone conference between Mr. Patterson of the District and Mr. Hackney of your staff, it was determined that it was preferable to locate the telephones near the source of key information and decision making. Therefore, the District believes that locating the HPN/ ENS telephones in Rooms #107 and #113, respectively, represents the optimum locations.

It is the District's understanding that the Commission is responsible for ensuring that these specific telephones are installed in the TSC.

Therefore, to ensure these telephones are installed and operational for the Fort Calhoun Station's 1982 emergency exercise, the District requests 8208270362 820820 PDR ADOCK 05000285 F PDR

Mr. W. C. Seidle LIC-82-274 Page Two the Commission commence the_ necessary actions to install these tele-phones by September 7, 1982. The District's interface for this effort will be Mr. Jim Fisicaro at (402) 426-4011.
