Dear Mr. Collins:

u River Bend Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-458 On March 4,1902 Gulf States Utilities Company (GSU) informed Region IV of a deficiency potentially reportable under 10 CFR 50.55(e). The subject of the deficiency was identified as 10 stainless steel forgings (Part Number 6-6-6 MBT-SS) that had been delivered to River Bend Station from a suspect heat lot (Traceability Code No. 251F). It has not been determined if GSU's forgings from the heat lot contain the forging lap which may exist through approximately 30 percent of the fitting wall.

Parker-Hannifin, the vendor, is performing an investigation on the forge die lot. GSU is awaiting the results of the vendor's investigation to conclude its determination of reportability. Additional information will be provided in a status report by July 16, 1982.
