2) Letter GO2-98-010, dated January 16, 1998, PR Bemis (SS) to NRC, "Amended Response To Generic Letter 94-03, Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking Of Core Shrouds In Boiling Water Reactors" It has come to my attention that statements in Reference 2 regarding the scope of the Spring 1998 (R-13) core shroud inspection could be misinterpreted. As a BWR 5, WNP-2 has two circumferential core shroud welds in the H4 zone, or core beltline area. The information in Reference 2 may be interpreted to indicate that the R-13 inspection included both H4 welds. A limited inspection for Category B plants per Reference 1 requires examination of only one core shroud weld in this area. This was confirmed through conversations with BWRVIP personnel.

The R-13 inspection included the accessible portions of only one H4 weld (lower H4 weld).

This weld connects the central mid cylinder to the lower cylinder. A sample portion of the upper H4 weld, which connects the central upper cylinder to the central mid cylinder, was inspected in R-9 (1994)." We apologiz'e'or any confusion the statements in Reference 2 may have caused.
