SUMMARY

OF APRIL 27, 2004, ANNUAL ASSESSMENT MEETING WITH PPL On April 27, 2004, at 6:00 p.m., an Annual Assessment Meeting was conducted at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station Visitors Center, Berwick, PA, between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and PPL Susquehanna, LLC (PPL). The NRC requested the meeting with PPL management to discuss the NRCs assessment of the safety performance of the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station for calendar year 2003.

A notice of licensee meeting was issued on March 10, 2004, and was posted on the NRCs external (public) web page (ADAMS Accession No. ML040700461).

The NRC presented and discussed its assessment of the safety performance of the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station Units 1 & 2 for the period between January 1 through December 31, 2003. The NRC presentation included background on both plants, performance assessment results, an overview of calendar year 2004 planned inspections and oversight, and a discussion of general NRC issues. As part of this regulatory performance meeting, PPL presented an overview of their performance at both facilities.

Members of the public, local and state officials, and the press observed this public meeting and were offered the opportunity to communicate with the NRC regarding PPLs performance and the role of the agency in ensuring safe plant operations at the end of the meeting.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the NRC staff addressed the public and media questions.
