Standby Diesel Generator (DG) Review Inspector Observations The NRC inspector made several inspections in the diesel generator-(DG) rooms to observe conditions and operators. Review of the logs and operator watchstanding was favorabla during the 100-hour run of DG No. 13. The NRC inspector was concerned that the frequency between cleanup of oil leaks on DG No. 12 may not have been adequate for the amount of leakage at the- tim I The NRC inspector brought to the attention of the licensee that a bolt was missing on the second flange downstream of the. crankcase exhaust vent line on DG No. 12. This is an unresolved item (498/8751-01) pending further review by the NRC inspector during a subsequent inspectio Review of Recent Failures

'

The NRC inspector reviewed the standby DG failures since June 22, 1987, to evaluate the response to these failures for proper failure analyses, corrective action, notification of vendor, and documenta-tion. These failures included:

. The NRC will follow'up on the root cause of the cracked fuel l injector assembly nut identified as a 10 CFR 50.55(e) item in ST-HL-AE-233 The licensee should continue.their investigation'of replacing'20 micron fuel oil filters with 5-micron filters or to add a 5 micron filter downstream of the 20 micron filter No violations or deviations were identifie . Exit Interview An exit interview was held on August 7, 1987, with personnel. denoted in paragraph 1 of this report. At the meeting, the scope of the inspection and findings were summarized.
