The inspector was told by licensee personnel that fire dampers are tested by removing the fusible link and verifying that the dampers close.
The air flow is secured during this test since during a fire the ventilation system air flow to the fire area is turned off.
This method has been accepted by NRR as a satisfactory means to ensure that fire dampers will close in the event of a fire.

The inspector discussed with the Assistant Plant Manager the increased fire hazard during outages due to increased materials and work such as welding and grinding.
Methods were also discussed to ensure that the effectiveness of the licensee's fire protection program is not -impaired during the outage.
