  • Attended exit interview Exit Interview The inspection scope and findings were summarized on March 16, 1979 with those persons indicated in Paragraph 1 abov The licensee was informed of Unresolved Item 50-281/79-18-01 on calibration records for gages being used for the nitrogen purge on the lower steam generator replacement shells (paragraph 7).

The licensee acknowledged the findin.

Steam Generator Repair - Review of Quality Assurance Implementing Procedures An inspection was performed to determine that appropriate and adequate procedures are included or referenced in the QA manual to assure that activities associated with steam generator (SG) repair are controlled and performed according to NRC requirements and the Surry SG Repair Program (SSGP) commitment In particular, the following receipt inspection, handling and storage procedures were inspected:

Surry QA Manual, Section 7 - "Control of Purchased Equipment and Services Surry QA Manual, Section 13 - "Handling, Storage and Shipping" Williams Crane and Rigging Inc. Procedure U - "Handling of New SG Lower Shells at Barge Slip and in Temporary Storage Area" W Process Specification NPT-89 - "Primary Moisture Separator Preinstal-Iation Maintenance Procedure" W Process Specification NPT-91 - "Protective Measures for Long Term Storage of SG Lower Assembly" W Process Specification NPT-94 - "Protective Measures for Short Term Storage of SG Lower Assembly" No items of noncompliance or deviations were identifie.

Steam Generator Repair - Observation of Work and Work Activities The SG lower assembly, moisture separators, an9 feed rings were inspected to ascertain compliance with applicable licensee storage, protection and preservation procedure The inspector noted* that pressure gages being used for monitoring the SG lower assembly had no markings to indicate that the gages had been calibrated and the date that they would require calibration. The licensee had no records onsite for the calibration of the gage The licensee indicated that the gages had been installed by the vendo The licensee indicated that they would try to obtain the gage calibration records from the SG lower assembly vendo Pending availability of SG lower assembly purge gas pressure gage calibration records for NRC inspection, this shall be identified as Unresolved Item 50-281/79-18-0..

-3-Steam Generator Repair - Review of Quality Record The SG lower assembly nitrogen protection log for the period of March 10-14, 1979 was reviewed to ascertain licensee compliancewith SSGP commitments and applicable procedures. Records for off loading the SG lower assemblies (procedure ETA 20003) were reviewed to determine licensee compliance with SSGP commitments and applicable procedure No items of noncompliance or deviations were identified.
