Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 Haddam Neck Plant Reauest For Extension On SERO Trainina The purpose of this letter is for Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (CYAPCO) to supply additional information to support its request for an additional three-month extension on SERO Training for the Haddam Neck Plant (HNP).

In a letter datad February 10,1998,W the NRC granted a three-month (through March 1998) extension on SERO Training. In a letter dated March 25,1998,2)

CYAPCO requested an additional three-month (through June 1998) extension on SERO Training, based on the ongoing NRC review of the Defueled Emergency Plan.

In the March 25,1998 letter, CYAPCO stated that the discussions provided in CYAPCO's December 18,1997 W letter and the NRC's February 10,1998 letter still remain valid for this additional extension. in subsequent discussions with the NRC Staff, a delineation of what SERO and DERO training has been and will be held for the first half of 1998 was requested. Attachment 1 provides this information.

March 24 Ambulance service training for East Hampton, East Haddam, Portland, Marlborough and Haddam Neck Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) was provided on basic radiation, and contamination control training for medical emergencies at the Haddam Neck Plant (HNP).

RERP Training Scheduled May i

At East Hartford (host community for Portland) radiological review training for Fire Department Training Officer and Emergency Medical Driver (EMD).

Ambulance service training for Hadaam Neck VFD, East Haddam and s Colchester Volunteer Ambulance to provide basic radiation training, contamination control training for medical emergencies at the HNP.

Two classroom sessions on basic radiation and dosimetry use training for participating staff at Middlesex Hospital.

At Wethersfield (host community for Haddam/Killingworth) radiological review training.

Middlesex Hospital Radiological Emergency Assistance (REA) staff walkthrough training.

Contaminated injured individual drill. Involves CYAPCO personnel (Nurse, Security, HP, Operations and SMSA), Ambulance Services and Middlesex Hospital. The drill also involves classification and notification.

RERP Training Proposed Annual training workshops for CYAPCO EPZ towns.

At UConn (host community for East Hampton/Marlborough) annual radiological review training for UConn Fire Department personnel, i
