No. 1C4 Rod Position Indicator - Inoperable.

This report was initiated by Incident Report 82-088.

CONDITIONS PRIOR TO OCCURRENCE:

Mode 1 - Rx Power 49% - Unit Load 530 MWe DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:

On April 18, 1982, during routine operation, the Control Room-Operator noticed that No. 1C4 Rod Position Indicator (RPI) was more than 12 steps lower than the bank demand position indicator.

No. IC4 RPI was declared inoperable at 0400 hours0.00463 days <br />0.111 hours <br />6.613757e-4 weeks <br />1.522e-4 months <br />, and Action Statement 3.1.3.2.1.a was entered.

This occurrence constituted operation in a degraded mode in accordance with Technical Specification 6.9.1.9.b.

DESIGNATION OF APPARENT CAUSE OF OCCURRENCE:

No. 1C4 RPI had drif ted out of calibration.

ANALYSIS OF OCCURRENCE:

Technical Specification 3.1.3.2.1.a requires that in modes 1 or 2, with a maximum of one RPI per bank inoperable, either:

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Reactor power was already less than 50%, in compliance with Action Statement 3.1.3.2.1.a.

The RPI was properly recalibrated and satisfactorily tested.

At 1000 hours0.0116 days <br />0.278 hours <br />0.00165 weeks <br />3.805e-4 months <br />, April 18, 1982, No. 1C4 RPI was declared operable, and Action Statement 3.1.3.2.1.a was terminated.
