Individual Rod Position Indication - 2C2 - Inoperable.

This report was initiated by Incident Report 82-028.

CONDITIONS PRIOR TO OCCURRENCE:

Mode 1 - Rx Power 96% - Unit Load 1100 MWe DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:

On February 1, 1982, the control operator noticed that the Individual Rod Position Indicator (IRPI) and Control Rod Bank Demand Indicator for Rod 2C2 werk in disagreement by greater than + 12 steps.

The IRPI was declared inoperable at 2025 hours0.0234 days <br />0.563 hours <br />0.00335 weeks <br />7.705125e-4 months <br />, and Action Statement 3.1.3.2.1.a was entered.

This occurrence constituted operation in a degraded mode in accordance with Technical Specification 6.9.1.9.b.

DESIGNATION OF APPARENT CAUSE OF OCCURRENCE:

The IRPI had drifted out of calibration.

ANALYSIS OF OCCURRENCE:

Technical Specification 3.1.3.2.1.a requires that in modes 1 and 2 with a maximum of one rod position indicator per bank inoperable eitner:

Determine the position of the non-indicating rod (s) indirectly by the movable ince e detectors at least once per 8 hours9.259259e-5 days <br />0.00222 hours <br />1.322751e-5 weeks <br />3.044e-6 months <br /> and immediately after any motion of the non-indicating rod which exceeds 24 steps in one direction since the last determination of the rod's position, or 2.

Reduce thermal power to less than 5,% of rated thermal power within 8 hours9.259259e-5 days <br />0.00222 hours <br />1.322751e-5 weeks <br />3.044e-6 months <br />.

.The IRPI was properly recalibrated and tested satisfactorily.
