SUBJECT:

Revision of a Commitment Related to Control Room Air Conditioning The purpose of this letter is to update the status of a corrective action discussed in Reference 2 concerning the modification of control room air conditioners at Fort Calhoun Station (FCS). On March 31, 1995, OPPD stated, in Reference 2, that:

Modipcation MR-FC-94-020, ' Control Room Air Conditioning Units VA-46A/B Improved Reliability, ' is in progress to address the potential impact ofpostulated post-accident CCW temperatures on the CR/AC units. This modification involves installation of air-cooled condenser units to ensure that the CR/AC units will be able to perform their intendedfimetion in the event of an accident. One modified CR/AC unit will befunctional prior to exceeding an RCS temperature of 300 degrees F at the conclusion of the 1995 refueling outage. The second modiped CR/AC unit will befunctional by April 15,1995.

Subsequently, on April 6,1995, installation and testing was completed on one of the air conditioning units and it was declared operable, as committed. Installation was completed on the second air conditioning unit on April 7,1995. However, a problem was encountered during the post-installation testing of the second air conditioning unit. Therefore, OPPD is modifying its commitment to completing the work on the second control room air conditioner. The second control room air conditioner will be operational by April 27, 1995, instead of April 15, 1995, as originally scheduled. OPPD has carefully reviewed th: FCS plant design basis requirements for redundant control room air conditioning and has 9504180481 950413 PDR ADOCK 05000285 S w g 45-st 24 PDR unpbymengtEqua opportunity ,
