Gentlemen:

Subject:

Updated Status of Licensee Event Report 94-007 Corrective Actions The purpose of this letter is to update the status of certain corrective actions included in Reference 2. Reference 2 discussed OPPDs evaluation concerning whether seal water supply piping to the four Raw Water (RW) pumps (AC-10A, AC-108, AC-10C 1 and AC-10D) performs a safety-related function. The evaluation concluded that seal '

water performs a safety-related function in supporting the operability of the RW pumps.  :

1 A safety assessment, documented in Safety Analysis for Operability (SA0) 94-01, '

i determined the RW pumps to be operable with the existing seal water configuration.

Reference 2 identified several corrective actions to address this issue. Corrective Action 4 stated:

"The seal water supply configuration to the RW pumps will be modified prior to the 1995 Refueling Outage to resolve this issue."

Modification MR-FC-94-019 was initiated to address this corrective action, and the design portion of the modification was approved by the Plant Review Committee on February 2, 1995. The 1995 Refueling Outage was originally scheduled to begin on March 11, 1995. An unplanned change to this schedule (associated with a leaking Control Element Drive Mechanism seal) resulted in the start of the outage being moved ahead to February 20, 1995. Due to the lead time required by vendors, certain components required for the modification were not received prior to the actual start of the outage.

Therefore, installation of MR-FC-94-019 will begin during the current outage and be completed prior to the plant restart. Corrective Action 2 from Reference 2 (which specifies interim actions pending completion of Corrective ' Action 4) will remain in  ;

effect until the modification is installed.  !

Corrective Action 5 stated: ]

"A review will be performed on CQE pumps to ensure that the operability of I these pumps does not . depend on a non-CQE mechanical support system or ,

components. This review will be completed prior to the 1995 Refueling '

Outage."

1 This action, although not completed prior to the start of the outage, was completed i by March 10, 1995, the date it was intended (i.e., prior to the originally scheduled l outage start date). This review determined that no additional open items, other I than those previously identified and currently in the corrective action programs, were discovered. i If you should have any questions, please contact me.

Sincerely, ON , j h T. L. Patterson Division Manager ,
