SER Open Item No. 61, Scram Discharge Volume Shoreham Nuclear Power Station - Unit 1 Docket No. 50-322

Reference:

NRC Letter (D. A. Repka) to the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board, dated Janaury 17, 1983, trans-mitting the staff's Shoreham Safety Evaluation Report Supplement - Integrity of BWR Scram System Piping

Dear Mr. Denton:

The staff review (reference 1) of the Shoreham specific responses to NUREG-0803 indicated that the environmental qualification status of the Reactor Building Flood Level Alarms was required, as these alarms are used in the detection of postulated breaks in the CRD scram discharge piping.

The subject level elements (lGll*LE645A&B) have successfully completed their environmental qualification testing program. The environmental effects of a postulated break in the scram discharge piping are enveloped by the qualification parameters for this -

equipment. The qualification documentation is expected to be available for on site review in approximately two weeks.
