DATIONS FOR THE AUXILIARY FEEDWATER SYSTEM

' pmvf des the Auxiliary Systems Branch (ASB) Safety Evaluation Report (SER) input for the D. C. Cook Auxiliary Feedwater System (APdS) reliability evaluation.

In a letter dated October 30, 1979, the NRC fomarded to Indiana and Michigan Electric Comoany our requirements regarding the D. C. Cook Units 1 and 2 APAS. These requirements are identified in NUREG-0611., " Generic Evaluation of Feed'.sater Transients and Small Bmak Loss of Coolant Accidents in Westinghouse-Designed Operating Plants." Indiana and Michigan Electric Company provided msponses in letters dated December ll,1979, Feburary 22, 1980, March 20, 1980, May 23, 1980, and June 26, 1980.,

The SER contains four items for which our review is not complete:

1.

Additional Recorrendation 1 - The licensee will be required to provide redundant level indication and alams for the primary water source of the auxiliary feedwater system.

2.

Additional Recommendation 3 - The safety grade design (long tem require-ment) for auxiliary feedwater flow indication is still under staff review.

Our evaluation will be presented in a supplement to this SER. This is a dated requirement.

Long Term Recommendat4on GL The safety grade design for auxiliary feedwater automatic initiation signals and circuits is stitl1 under staff review. Our evaluation will be presented in a supplement to this SER.

4.

Recommendation (Enclosure 2) - The licensee has not yet provided the infomation for Enclosure 2 of our Oceaber 30, 1979 letter. We will provide our evaluation in a supplement to this SER.
