SUBJECT:

20RTH ANNA UNIT 2 - SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT (SUPPLE?ET)

INPUT ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR AUXILIARY FEEDWATER SYSTEMSS The Auxiliar/ Systems Branch Safety Evaluation Report input was provided to you by our memorandum of June 85, 1980. Thatisppet stated that the licensee had not responded to Enclosure 2 of our September 28, 1779 letter regarding the design basis for Auxiliary Feedwater System flow require-ments. The licansee provided-the required information in a letter dated July 10, 1980.

Our evaltation-of this matter is provided as an enclosure.

SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT (SUPPLEMENT)

NORTH ANNA, UNIT 2 IMPLEMEN M ION OF RECOMMP !ATIONS FOR AUXILIARY FEEDWATER SYS(EMS Design Basis for Auxiliary Feedwater System Flow Reouirements In our letter of September 28, 1979, Enclo';ure ?, we requested the licensee to provide the " Design Basis for Auxiliary Feedwater System Flow Require-ments." The licensee provided a response for North Anna Unit 2 only in a letter dated July 10, 1980.

We have evaluated the information provided by the licensee which addresses the transient events stated in Enclosure 2 of our September 28, 1979 l e tte r.

In its submittal the licensee stated that the maximum flow requirement was 680 gpm to at least two steam generators following a loss of flow event (including station blackout). This assumes 340 gpm (1 ninute after trip) and 680 gpm (af ter 30 minutes).

Each motor driven AFW pump is rated at 350 gpm and the turbine driven pump is rated at 700 gpm. The seismic designed condensate storage tank is normally filled with 110,000 gallons of water and other sources of water are available.

Based o? the licensee's pump configuration we conclude that the licensee's design meets its design basis for flow requirements and is therefore acceptable.
