Check, AssistantDirector for Plant Systems, OSI SURRY UNITS l AND 2 - SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT INPUT ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF RECOMMENDATIONS.FOR AUXILIARY FEEDHATER SYSTEMS The *Auxiliar.)l Systems Branch i-ias completed its review of the Auxiliary Feed-water System reliability evaluation-for Surry Units l_:and 2. _Ina letter dated September 25, 1979, the Division of Operating Reactors ~DOR) fon1arded to the Virginia Electric and Power Company (VEPCO) our requirements regarding the Surry Unit 1 and 2 Auxiliary Feedwater. System.

VEPCO provided responses in letters dated November 9, 1979, January 10, 1980, February 1, 1980, February 26, 1980, M<<rrch 21, 1980, and May 19~ 19E!O.

In a letter dated Novem-ber 9, 1979, VEPCO stated that certain G.S. items would be completed by January 1, 1980.

In a te~ephone conversation on September 26, 1980, VEPCO stated that the items were all complete.

The fact that these G.S. items have -been c_ornp 1 eted_ \\rJi 11 be documented* by VEPCOd Our Safety/Evaluation Report (SER) contains four items for which our safety evaluation is not complete.

1. Recommendation EL All auxiliary feedwater flow control valves and the downstream manually operated shutoff valves are located inside con-tainment.

The licensee h~s not yet provided a response to how these valves can be utilized in an accident environment.

We will provide our evaluation in a supplement to this SER.
