SUBJECT:

1988 MEETING ON PIPE AND PIPE SUPPORTS SEISMIC

'DESIGN

SUMMARY

OF JUNE 16,(TAC 00015, 00016, 00017)

METHODOLOGY On June 16, 1988, members from the Office of Special Projects met with the staff of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA or the licensee) to discuss TVA's seismic design methodology for the piping and pipe supports at Browns Ferry.

Enclosure 1 is the list of attendees. Enclosure 2 is a copy of the TVA handout on which the meeting was based.

The meeting was held as a' briefing for the s'taff by the licensee. Following discussions with the staff, TVA agreed to re-evaluate the piping and pipe supports according to the-Standard Review Plan and then compare this to their original design basis to establish a margin of difference. In a parallel effort, the staff agreed to evaluate plants of a similar vintage to Browns Ferry to determine the acceptance criteria. TVA and the staff are to meet again in early July to discuss the results of the above efforts.
