APPENDIX A NOTICE OF DEVIATIO" Kansas ~ Gas and Electric Company Docket: 50-458/85-42 Wolf Creek Generating Station License: NPF-42 Based on the results of an NRC inspection conducted during the period of December 9-13, 1985, it appears that one of your activities was not conducted in conformance with your commitments to the Commission. Based on the results of the inspection and in_accordance with the " General Statement of Policy and Procedure for NRC Enforcement Actions," 10 CFR Part-2, Appendix C (1985), the following deviation was identified:

Failure to Implement a Continuous Airborne Monitoring Program The Final Safety Analysis Reports (FSAR) for the Standardized Nuclear Unit Power Plant System (SNUPPS), Section 12.3.4.2.2.2.9, Portable Monitors, and the FSAR for the Wolf Creek Generating Station (SNUPPS-WC), Section 12.5.2.1, Health Physics Equipment and Instrumentation, establish a commitment to use continuous airborne radioactivity monitors (CAMS) as a primary means -of measuring and trending airborne radioactivity concentrations within plant areas.

In deviation from the above, the NRC inspectors determined on December.1'0, 1985, that the licensee had no CAMS in operation and that CAMS had not been routinely used. (482/8542-01)

further deviations, and (4) the date when full compliance will be achieved.

Consideration may be given to extending your response time for good cause shown.

Dated at Arlington, Texas this 24 day of March ,1986
