SUMMARY

OF MEETING TO DISCUSS THE LICENSEE'S PROBABILISTIC RISK ASSESSMENT USED TO SUPPORT THE POWER UPRATE (TAC NO. MB0789)

At a public meeting on December 18 and 19, 2001, two members of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted a site review of specific aspects of the ANO-2 risk evaluation that was performed by the licensee in support of their license amendment application requesting a 7.5 percent power uprate.

Prior to initiating the review, the licensee made a brief presentation on the ANO-2 power uprate risk impact assessment. The licensees presentation is provided herewith as Enclosure 1. In addition, an attendance list is provided herewith as Enclosure 2.

Based on the NRC staffs review of the license amendment application and supporting information that the licensee had formally provided, the site review focused on the licensees fire analysis and human reliability analysis. The NRC staff reviewed the licensees approaches and documentation in each of these areas to ascertain the fidelity of the licensees approach with the methodology that the licensee indicated that they had used and to verify the conservative nature of their analysis. This review involved considerable interactions between the NRC staff and the licensee in discussing the licensees approaches and the results of these analyses, including computer program demonstrations and manipulations of these analyses.

The findings of this site review will be incorporated into the NRC staffs safety evaluation on the power uprate.
