Dear Sir:

In response to your Notice of violation dated August 11, 1982, the University of Iu.vell submits the following information. Following your inspection of June 16, 1982, procedures were prepared, reviewed and approved as required by Technical Specifications. These procedures covered all of the areas identified as being inadequate in your inspection report. These procedures were reviewed by your office via telephone on June 17, 1982.

All subsequent activities dealing with the Co-60 source have been conducted according to these procedures.

All personnel responsible for the issuing and implementation of procedures were reminded that Technical Specifications and 10CFR require that written, approved precedurer are required for these kinds of activities.

We consider the University of Lowell to be in full compliance as of June 17, 1982.
