We would like to inform you of two changes in the University of Lowell Research Reactor Facility (License R-125) as required by 10 CFR 50.59. The Final Safety Analysis Report for this facility (10.1.2.7) describe the presence of a " electronics group" and a "small shop" (machine shop) as support groups to meet the day to day "needs of the reactor." During the past year both the electronics group and the machine shop have been moved from the Nuclear Center to the engineering building complex adjacent to the center.

In accordance with 10 CFR 50.59 the University of Lowell Reactor Safety Subcommittee has reviewed the above changes at their meeting on Sept. 14, 1989 and has determined that the above changes do not involve any unreviewed safety questions given the following safeguards:

1. The capacity of .the new shops for performing electronic and mechanical repairs has not diminished.

2. Both the machine and electronics shops ~will continue to provide services as requested frcm the U of Lowell reactor on a timely basis.
