Dear Mr. Keppler:

Illinois Power Company is planning certain modifications to our Clinton Power Station's Unit 1 reactor pressure vessel.

General Electric Company has been authorized to act as our agent for the performance of this work which has been subcon-tracted to Reactor Controls, Inc. This notification is in accordance with Article lWA 1400,Section XI, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. The modifications, scheduled to commence March 19, 1979, include:

1. The removal of the safe-end and welding a cap over the existing Control Rod Drive Hydraulic Return Line Nozzle.
2. The removal of the existing inconel safe-ends and substitution of carbon steel safe-ends on the Feedwater Nozzles.
3. The removal of the existing inconel safe-ends and substitution of 316L stainless steel safe-ends on the Recirculation Inlet Nozzles.

The above work will be accomplished in accordance with the Summer 1975 (1974 issue) requirements of Section XI, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. The repair plan, procedures , and related documents will be available for your review at the site.
