seven. Four cases occurred in Bucks, three in Lehigh, and two in Berks
'Ihe cases were found threugh the Depart: rent of Health's system of state-wide screening and follow up of newborns for phenylketcnuria and hypothy-roidism. By State regulaticn, newborns born in Fernsylvania are required 1
to be screened for these two diseases during the first week of life. The purpae is to _ detect .and_ treat . cases early in order to prevent mental retardaticn. - - - -
