SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF THE MAY 2007 ANNUAL ASSESSMENT MEETING WITH AMERGEN On May 23, 2007, at 7:00 p.m., the NRC conducted an Annual Assessment Meeting with Amergen Energy Company at the Emergency Operations Facility in Toms River, NJ. The NRC requested the meeting with AmerGen management to present NRCs assessment of the safety performance of the Oyster Creek (OC) Generating Station for the calendar year 2006.
A notice of licensee meeting was issued on May 9, 2007 and was posted on the NRCs external (public) web page (ADAMS Accession No. ML071290582).
The NRC presented and discussed its assessment of the safety performance of Oyster Creek Generating Station for the period between January 1 through December 31, 2006, as documented in our letter dated March 2, 2006 (ADAMS Accession No. ML070610592). The NRC presentation included background on the Reactor Oversight Process, OC assessment results, and an overview of planned inspections for the remainder of the year. The NRCs overall assessment was that Amergen operated Oyster Creek Generating Station in a manner that preserved public health and safety. During the meeting, AmerGen stated they were in general agreement with NRCs assessment and discussed planned areas for improvement.
Local officials, the press and numerous members of the public observed this public meeting and were offered the opportunity to question the NRC regarding AmerGens performance and the role of the agency in ensuring safe plant operations at the end of the meeting. The question and answer session accommodated all individuals who desired to speak or ask questions after the business portion of the meeting had been completed. Attached are the list of attendees, meeting slides, and meeting feedback forms provided to the NRC.
