Dear Mr. Ballard:

Enclosed herewith are twenty-five (25) copies of the Summer 1979 Quarterly Report on the Bailly Generating Station's Nuclear-1 Ecological Monitoring Progrant. This is the 21st Quarterly Report on this work. The Summer 1979

, Quarterly Report contains analyscs and interpretation of data from April through September,1979 Also included in this Report are analyses for the previous quarter on sampics taken late in the period.

Summer 1979 terrestrial sampling was accomplished during July,1979.

Under the study design, no sampling was required in August or Septemoer, 1979. The sampling included inspection for foliar effects, vegetation and soil samples, mammal observations, road-side surveys (mammals and birds),

reptile and amphibian surveys, and invertebrate surveys. Parameters indicated continuity with the past analyses. Although several parameters reported in this quarter varied from values reported in the past, the variability was attributable to such things as routine transmission line i maintenance and grass fires from unknown sources in the sampling areas.

l Soil conductivity still well levels were below potential stresshigher levels.in 1979 at most locations, but were Activities connected with the construction of Bailly Generating Station Nuclear-1 were not responsible for any variations from past data, and there appears to be no discernible effects of construction activities on the terrestrial environment.

Summcr 1979 aquatic sampling was accomplished in August. This sampling included collection of phytoplankton, periphyton, zooplankton, benthos, fisheries, and water quality samples. .b Also included in this Report are the y*' #

Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page two November 15, 1979 analyses for April phytoplankton and periphyton chlorophyll a, April benthos, April and June fish, and April sediments. In general, the aquatic parameters were predictable and indicated no adverse effects of Bailly Generating Station Nuclear-1 construction activities.

In summary, there continues to be no discernible effects to the environment due to the construction activities of Bailly Generating Station Nuclear-1.
