SUMMARY

OF AUGUST 31, 2011, PUBLIC MEETING WITH TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY REGARDING SUBMITTAL OF WATTS BAR NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 2, FIRE PROTECTION REPORT AND OTHER OPEN ITEMS IN THE SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT On August 31,2011, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the review of Watts Bar Nuclear Plant Unit 2 Fire Protection Report and other open items in the Safety Evaluation Report, in support of TVA's application for an operating license. A list of attendees is enclosed.

The first part of the meeting consisted of the NRC and TVA staff discussing draft requests for additional information (RAls) based on the content of the fire protection report under technical review. As a result of the meeting, the staff issued RAls that can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System at Accession Number ML112490474.

For the last portion of the meeting, the NRC and TVA staff discussed the responses provided by TVA in a letter dated July 29,2011, on boron dilution.

NRC staff stated that although TVA tried to justify boron dilution calculations for Modes 1, 2, and 6 were sufficient, the staff did not agree and could not complete its evaluation without having calculations for all modes. TVA stated it would work with Westinghouse to provide the missing information.

Members of the public did not participate in the meeting. Please direct any inquiries to me at 301-415-2048 or Justin.Poole@nrc.gov.
