Dear Mr. Turovlin:

@ }ho-In response to your questions on corrosion of fuel racks, please see section 9.1.2.3.2.2 of the Clinton FSAR. Additionally, the enclosed documents discuss the corrosion resistance of Boral material:
1. " Corrosion of Structural and Poison Material in Spent Fuel Storage Pools", presented at the International Corrosion Forum (April 1981) by Brookhaven National Laboratory.
2. B & P Report 577 "The Suitability of Brooks &

Perkins' Spent Fuel Storage Module For Use in BWR Storage Pool", July 21, 1978.

3. B & P Report 554 " Brooks & Perkins, Inc. Spent Fuel Storage Module Corrosion Report", June 1, 1977.
4. Brooks & Perkins,"High Density Fuel Storage Products".
5. Brooks & Perkins, "Boral Neutron Shielding Material",

November, 1975. These documents indicate that corrosion of Boral and stain-less steel is ninimal, and that the performance of structural and poison materi.1 in spent fuel pools has been excellent. Also for your information, a surveillance program will be started in the near future at the Dresden Station (Commonwealth Edison), which will ob=erve Boral coupons in the spent fuel pool environment. A surveillance program on Boral has also been started at the Cooper Station (Nebraska Public Power District). If you have any further questions, please call Mr. Charles Wheeler. g/ 5 Si cere
