June 2006 Monthly Report for DPO-2006-002 and DPO-2006-003 On May 22, 2006, the Differing Professional Opinions (DPO) Program Manager forwarded to the Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation two DPOs from one submitter concerning the use of a leak-before-break approach in emergency core cooling system (ECCS) sump screen design and design of an low pressure ECCS system cross-tie isolation valve. On June 2, 2006, N.the Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation established one ad hoc review Panel to review the two DPOs. due to the technical similarity between the issues concerning one facility. The size of the Panel was expanded from the typical three member panel with one additional member to ensure sufficient resources of appropriate technical background and experience to complete a thorough review of the DPOs. The Panel members have received materials regarding both DPOs and have begun their review. The Panel plans on meeting with the submitter to discuss the DPOs in mid-July.
