SYSTEMATIC ASSESSMENT OF LICENSEE PERFORMANCE. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT (REPORT NOS, 50-348/98-99 AND 50-364/98-99)

Dear Mr. Morey:

The NRC Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance (SALP) has'been completed'for your Farley' nuclear facility.

The facility was evaluated for the period of November 24, 1996, through May 30. 1998.

The results of the evaluation are documented in the enclosed SALP report. This report will be L

discussed with you at a public meeting to be held at the Farley nuclear facility site at 10:00 a.m.

on July 15, 1998.

.- The SALP process assessed the Farley nuclear facility's performance in fec

' functional areas: _ Plant Operations, Maintenance. Engineering and Plan!

Support.

Performance in Plant Operations and Engineering remained superior.

L Reliable equipment performance was a key contributor to performance improving to superior in the maintenance area.

Performance in the Plant Support area j

remained at a good level. Adherence to radiological control procedures and material condition of fire protection equipment and systems detracted from j

. attaining a superior category rating.

The self-assessment program continued to be strong in identification of

problems. Assessments were thorough'and corrective actions resulted in few l

repetitive problems, r
