The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a planned license amendment request relating to the replacement of the existing Three Mile Island, Unit 1 rod control system. The rod control system is a non-safety related system that is being upgraded from an analog to a digital system. The replacement activity will result in the removal of the axial power shaping rods, changes to the rod position indication system and a modified reactor trip breaker scheme. The licensee presentation information does not contain proprietary information and may be found at Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession Number ML082671209. A list of meeting attendees is provided in the enclosure. The NRC staff asked several clarifying questions during the meeting and provided feedback on potential areas of staff focus during the review process. No regulatory decisions were made during this meeting. One member of the public, a representative from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, was in attendance.
