SUBJECT:

SUMMARY OF PUBLIC MEETING

On May 4, 2017, at 4:30 p.m., the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a public open house at the Susquehanna Energy Information Center in Berwick, PA. The NRC conducted the Annual Assessment Meeting to discuss its assessment of the safety performance at Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES), Units 1 and 2 for 2016.

A notice of the open house was issued on April 5, 2017, and was posted on the NRC's external (public) Web page. The meeting notice can be found in the NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) with Accession No. ML17090A133. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web page at: http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html. The NRC presented poster boards and handouts during the open house to discuss its assessment of the safety performance of SSES Units 1 and 2 for the period of January 1 through December 31, 2016, as documented in our letter dated March 1, 2017 (ADAMS Accession No. ML17055B944). The NRC poster boards presented included background on the Reactor Oversight Process and SSES performance highlights. Additional information relative to the NRC's Annual Assessment Process and the safety performance of SSES Units 1 and 2 can be found on the NRC's web site at: www.nrc.gov/NRR/OVERSIGHT/ASSESS/index.html. SSES nuclear officials attended the open-house and were offered the opportunity to question the NRC regarding SSES Units 1 and 2's performance and the role of the agency in ensuring safe plant operations.
