This submittal provides the results of the steam dryer visual inspections conducted during the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) Unit 1 181h Refueling and Inspection Outage (RIO). The results are contained in the Enclosure, and meet the intent of SSES Unit 1 License Condition 2.C.(36)(e) from Reference 1. SSES Unit 1 License Condition 2.C.(36)(e) requires: "During each scheduled refueling outage until at least two full operating cycles at full CPPU conditions have been achieved, a visual inspection shall be conducted of all accessible, susceptible locations of the steam dryer in accordance with BWRVIP-139 and General Electric inspection guidelines." The SSES Unit 1 steam dryer visual inspection results provided in the Enclosure are for the second full operating cycle at full Constant Pressure Power Uprate (CPPU) conditions. There has been no unacceptable flaw, or flaw growth due to fatigue identified from visual inspections of the steam dryer. Consequently, this submittal also satisfies the requirements of License Condition 2.C.(36)(g) from Reference 1. SSES Unit 1 License Condition 2.C.(36)(g) requires: Document Control Desk PLA-7192 "This license condition shall expire upon satisfaction of the requirements in License Conditions 2.C.(36)(e) and 2.C.(36)(f) provided that a visual inspection of the steam dryer does not reveal any new unacceptable flaw or unacceptable flaw growth that is due to fatigue. (36) (e) Executive Summary: The Unit 1 steam dryer was inspected in accordance with the requirements ofBWRVIP-139 and the manufacturer, General Electric, recommendations. There has been no newly identified unacceptable flaw or unacceptable flaw growth due to fatigue. Three hundred sixty three (363) visual examinations were performed on welds and components. Newly discovered non-conforming conditions were identified as follows:
* Indication on bottom side of Dryer inside diameter (ID) Divider Plate weld: DRYER HOOD F DIVIDER PLATE 0 DEG Reference Condition Report (CR) 2014-12390. The indication has been dispositioned as use-as-is.
* Indication on the bottom side of Dryer ID Divider Plate weld: DRYER HOOD F DIVIDER PLATE 180 DEG. Reference CR 2014-12390. The indication has been dispositioned as use-as-is.
* New indications on the three of four fillet welds on the DRYER 220-DEG LIFTING EYE WELDS. Reference CR 2014-12992. The indications have been dispositioned as use-as-is. All locations listed above have been re-scheduled for exam during the Unit 1 19 RIO to determine if defect growth has occurred. The following previously identified indications showed growth or other changes during the Unit 1 18RIO:
* Dryer Lug LL-B 140 Deg Lower Bracket Additional growth in fillet weld crack. Reference CR 2014-12791. Indication has been dispositioned as use-as-is.

A sampling program will be started in the Unit 1 19RIO, consistent with inspection program requirements. All previous indications will continue to be inspected, consistent with the inspection program requirements.
Inspection Methods Used: Enclosure to PLA-7192 Page 3 of 21 The VT 1 visual examination is utilized to visually determine the condition of a part, component or surface and to reveal such conditions as cracks, wear, corrosion, erosion and/or physical damage to such parts, especially welded joints. The VT 3 visual examination is utilized to determine structural integrity, the measurement of clearances, detection of physical displacement, determination of the structural adequacy of supporting elements, the soundness of connections between load carrying structural members, and tightness of bolting. Inspection Results Identification:
* NRI-No Recordable Indication. The weld or component was in compliance with the inspection acceptance criteria, no cracks or deformation during inspection was discovered. No further actions were required.
* RI -Recordable Indication. The weld or component contained a defect such as a crack or deformation that resulted in further evaluation and disposition in the Corrective Action Program. A component with a Recordable Indication discovered in 2010 or 2012 with no change in condition detected in 2014 is reported in 2014 as an RI; however, a Condition Report is not required. This submittal provides the results of the steam dryer visual inspections conducted during the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) Unit 1 181h Refueling and Inspection Outage (RIO). The results are contained in the Enclosure, and meet the intent of SSES Unit 1 License Condition 2.C.(36)(e) from Reference 1. SSES Unit 1 License Condition 2.C.(36)(e) requires: "During each scheduled refueling outage until at least two full operating cycles at full CPPU conditions have been achieved, a visual inspection shall be conducted of all accessible, susceptible locations of the steam dryer in accordance with BWRVIP-139 and General Electric inspection guidelines." The SSES Unit 1 steam dryer visual inspection results provided in the Enclosure are for the second full operating cycle at full Constant Pressure Power Uprate (CPPU) conditions. There has been no unacceptable flaw, or flaw growth due to fatigue identified from visual inspections of the steam dryer. Consequently, this submittal also satisfies the requirements of License Condition 2.C.(36)(g) from Reference 1. SSES Unit 1 License Condition 2.C.(36)(g) requires: Document Control Desk PLA-7192 "This license condition shall expire upon satisfaction of the requirements in License Conditions 2.C.(36)(e) and 2.C.(36)(f) provided that a visual inspection of the steam dryer does not reveal any new unacceptable flaw or unacceptable flaw growth that is due to fatigue. Winker, PA DEP/BRP Enclosure to PLA-7192 Unit 1 License Condition 2.C.(36)(e) Steam Dryer Inspection Results Enclosure to PLA-7192 Page 1 of 21 License Condition 2.C.(36)(e) Susquehanna Unit 1 Steam Dryer Inspection Results Purpose: To report the results of the Unit 1 18 Refueling and Inspection Outage (RIO) Steam Dryer visual inspections to satisfy Unit 1 License Condition 2.C. (36) (e) Executive Summary: The Unit 1 steam dryer was inspected in accordance with the requirements ofBWRVIP-139 and the manufacturer, General Electric, recommendations. There has been no newly identified unacceptable flaw or unacceptable flaw growth due to fatigue. Three hundred sixty three (363) visual examinations were performed on welds and components. Newly discovered non-conforming conditions were identified as follows:

  • Indication on bottom side of Dryer inside diameter (ID) Divider Plate weld: DRYER HOOD F DIVIDER PLATE 0 DEG Reference Condition Report (CR) 2014-12390. The indication has been dispositioned as use-as-is.
  • Indication on the bottom side of Dryer ID Divider Plate weld: DRYER HOOD F DIVIDER PLATE 180 DEG. Reference CR 2014-12390. The indication has been dispositioned as use-as-is.
  • New indications on the three of four fillet welds on the DRYER 220-DEG LIFTING EYE WELDS. Reference CR 2014-12992. The indications have been dispositioned as use-as-is. All locations listed above have been re-scheduled for exam during the Unit 1 19 RIO to determine if defect growth has occurred. The following previously identified indications showed growth or other changes during the Unit 1 18RIO:
  • Dryer Lug LL-B 140 Deg Lower Bracket Additional growth in fillet weld crack. Reference CR 2014-12791. Indication has been dispositioned as use-as-is.
  • Dryer Lug LL-C 220 Deg Lower Bracket Additional growth in fillet weld crack. Reference CR 2014-12791. Indication has been dispositioned as use-as-is.
  • Dryer Weld ER-C-2, Change in wear pattern. Reference CR 2014-13455. Indication has been dispositioned as use-as-is.
  • Dryer 140-Deg Lifting Eye Tack Welds. Additional tack weld crack. Reference CR 2014-13455 Indication has been dispositioned as use-as-is.
  • Dryer Weld Skirt Panel 0 Deg Left. Additional growth of existing cracks. Reference CR 2014-13419 Indications have been dispositioned as use-as-is.
  • Dryer Weld Skirt Panel 045 Deg. Additional growth of existing cracks. Reference CR 2014-13419 Indications have been dispositioned as use-as-is.

  • Dryer Hood F Discoloration No other non-conformities were identified during the inspection process. A sampling program will be started in the Unit 1 19RIO, consistent with inspection program requirements. All previous indications will continue to be inspected, consistent with the inspection program requirements.

Inspection Methods Used: Enclosure to PLA-7192 Page 3 of 21 The VT 1 visual examination is utilized to visually determine the condition of a part, component or surface and to reveal such conditions as cracks, wear, corrosion, erosion and/or physical damage to such parts, especially welded joints. The VT 3 visual examination is utilized to determine structural integrity, the measurement of clearances, detection of physical displacement, determination of the structural adequacy of supporting elements, the soundness of connections between load carrying structural members, and tightness of bolting. Inspection Results Identification:

  • NRI-No Recordable Indication. The weld or component was in compliance with the inspection acceptance criteria, no cracks or deformation during inspection was discovered. No further actions were required.
  • RI -Recordable Indication. The weld or component contained a defect such as a crack or deformation that resulted in further evaluation and disposition in the Corrective Action Program. A component with a Recordable Indication discovered in 2010 or 2012 with no change in condition detected in 2014 is reported in 2014 as an RI; however, a Condition Report is not required.
