Dear Sir:

This special report.is subuitted in accordance with LaSalle Unit 1 Operating License, NPF-11, Appendix A. Technical Specification 3.3.7.9 and 6.6.C. F

On September 20, 1989, the ionization detectors for detection zones 1-16 and l-16P (Reactor Building Primary containment 740' and 761') were taken out of service. Similarly, on September 25, 1989, the detectors for zones 1-17 and 1-17P (Reactor Building 740') were also taken out of service. These measures were taken as a conservative precaution to prevent spurious zone fire alarms due to extensive welding, cutting, and open flame work being performed in '

these areas. This work is required for the completion of the Unit i refueling outage.
