This Special Report is submitted in accordance with LaSalle Unit 1 Operating License NPF-11, Appendix B, Technical Specifications 3 7.6 and 6.6.c. On June 8,1982 a letter was received f rom the Zack Company stating a possible discrepancy in certain type fire dampers 18" wide and narrower supplied by American Warming and Ventilating Inc. As a conservative precaution, the fire dampers noted were declared in-operative. Zack reported this event in accordance with 10CFR Part 21. l During the period of this Special Report, General Area Fire Protection Systems were available and operable in accordance with Technical Speci-fications 3 7.6. An hour y fire watch was also established to patrol the af fected areas. The event occurred as a result of a discrepancy in the fuse link assembly size for fire dampers 18" wide and narrower. The assembly should be (3") long instead of the (23") long assembly. As installed (2i"), there is a possibility that the damper will get hung up on the clover hook when the fuse link disintegrates. The damper is held in the open position and is closed when the assembly separates. The fuse link assemblies will be replaced as required in all safety related fire dampers 18" wide and narrower as noted on Zack damper list. Vork will be completed by August 1, 1982. All other non-safety fire dampers 18" wide and narrower should be completed by September 1, 1982. M R. H.
