. Supplementary Information to LER 82-004/03 L-0 Licensee: Mississippi Power & Light Company Facility: Grand Gulf Nuclear Station - Unit 1 Docket No.: 50-416 On June 16, 1982, an " Area Radiation Monitoring System Failure Alarm" was_ initiated. Upon suggestion by Health Physics personnel, the ARM system was declared inoperable and a limiting condition for operation was entered. Health Physics personnel began surveys with portable monitoring devices immediately and continued every 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
until July.

2, 1982. After investigation, maintenance personnel found the following: one detector's check _ source was sticking and one detector's setpoint was low. No failure of a channel was found. Probable cause of the alarm is attributed to a transient which allowed the meter to fail

'in the downscale range of the monitor, initiating the failure alarm.

After completion of surveillance testing, the system was declared operable on July 3, 1982.
