SUMMARY

OF THE MAY 5, 2011, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE 2010 PALISADES END-OF-CYCLE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On May 5, 2011, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at Lake Michigan College, South Haven, Michigan. The meeting was between NRC Region III management and Entergy Nuclear Operations representatives to discuss the NRCs assessment of the safety performance of Palisades Nuclear Generating Plant for the period from January 1, 2010, through December 31, 2010. The meeting notice and NRC presentation can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML111020200 and ML111020149, respectively.

The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRCs Mission, the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP), national ROP results, and the Action Matrix in general. This was followed by a discussion of the NRCs assessment of Palisades performance in 2010, which was documented in the March 4, 2011, End-Of-Cycle assessment letter (ML110620625).

The licensee then provided a response to the NRCs assessment. The licensee presentation can be found in ADAMS under ML111260486. At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials. The NRC officials answered questions regarding operation at the site, security, license renewal, equipment reliability, dry fuel storage, emergency planning, and the U. S. response to issues in Japan. Slides used to describe the NRC's ROP process and Palisades Power Station 2010 performance can be found in ADAMS under ML111160502. A list of principal meeting attendees can be found in the attached enclosure.
