DOCKET NUMBER 50-483 CALLAWAY PLANT UNIT 1 UNION ELECTRIC CO.

RENEWED FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NPF-30 PRESENTATION INFORMATION FOR PRE-APPLICATION MEETING REGARDING NEW LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST FOR USE OF FRAMATOME FUEL ASSEMBLIES AT CALLAWAY PLANT

References:

Provided on page 3.

A meeting (phone conference) between Union Electric (Ameren Missouri), Framatome and NRC personnel is being planned in order to discuss a license amendment request (LAR) to be submitted in early October 2022 for the Callaway Plant. The amendment to be requested would support use of fuel from a new/different fuel vendor (Framatome, Inc.) for the Callaway Plant, i.e., for a limited number of assemblies beyond the four lead fuel assemblies that have already been loaded into the Callaway core in accordance with the provisions of Callaway Technical Specification 4.2. 1 , Fuel Assemblies.

Specifically, the LAR would support the use of Framatome GAlA fuel assemblies at Callaway, as qualified in accordance with Callaways vendor qualification program (VQP) for Framatome.

The presentation materials to be used for the meeting are in the form of PowerPoint slides prepared by Ameren and Framatome personnel. The purpose of this letter is to transmit the slides to the NRC staff in advance of the meeting. The slides to be used for the public meeting are provided in Enclosure 1.

The forthcoming meeting is intended to address the licensing aspects regarding the revised plan to use Framatome GAlA fuel. The licensing plan has been modified from that presented in the previous pre submittal meetings conducted for the closely related LAR that was withdrawn by Ameren Missouri per Reference 8, as acknowledged by the NRCs letter identified as Reference 9. Those meetings were conducted on May 20, 2021 (References 1 and 2), October 14, 2021 (References 3, 4 and 5), and February 28, 2022 (References 6 and 7), respectively.
