DOCKET NUMBER 50-483 CALLAWAY PLANT UNIT 1 UNION ELECTRIC CO.

RENEWED FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NPF-30 WITHDRAWAL OF LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST AND EXEMPTION REQUEST REGARDING TRANSITION TO FRAMATOME FUEL (LDCN 22-0002)

Reference:

Ameren Missouri letter ULNRC-06729, Application for Technical Specification Change and Exemption Request Regarding Transition to Framatome Fuel, LDCN 22-0002, dated June 2, 2022 (ADAMS Accession No. ML22153A174)

Per the letter identified as the reference above, Ameren Missouri (Union Electric) submitted a combined license amendment request (LAR) and exemption request to support the anticipated transition to a new fuel type for the Callaway Plant. Specifically per the letter, Ameren Missouri requested revision of the plants Technical Specifications to support transition to the use of Framatome GAlA fuel, as well as NRC approval, pursuant to 1 0 CFR 50. 1 2, of an exemption from the provisions of 10 CFR 50.46, Acceptance criteria for emergency core cooling systems for light-water nuclear power reactors, and Appendix K to 10 CFR 50, ECCS Evaluation Models, to allow the use of M5 fuel rod cladding in future core reload applications.

After further evaluation of the fuel transition plan, the decision has been made to terminate the transition plan described in the LAR and discussed in the pre-submittal meetings conducted with the NRC for the LAR. On that basis, Ameren Missouri hereby withdraws its combined request for a license amendment and regulatory exemption (EPIDs L-2022-LLA-0083 and L-2022-LLE-00 19, respectively).
