STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Emergency Lighting Systen's Confirmatory Item 20 Based on NRC's review of our letter dated December 9,1986, and follow up meetings with our personnel on the above subject, we understand that the following commitment will close Confirmatory item 20 in the South Texas Project Electric Generation Station (STPEGS) Safety Evaluation Report.

The periodic test program for the portions of the Emergency DC Lighting System (EDCLS) required to meet 10CFR50 Appendix R will include the following requirement in addition to those identified in our letter dated December 9, 1986 (ST-HL-AE-1813).

Upon completion of installation of the EDCLS, illumination readings will be taken at the lamp head to establish baseline data. Annual illumination readings will be taken at the lamp head to verify that the illumination level has not degraded below 90% of the baseline reading. For the purpose of this testing, normal area lighting will not be turned off.
