RE: NMP1 Relief Request Associated with Pump Periodic Verification Tests of Core Spray System Pumps

Tom,

Thanks for the call back. As we discussed, I understand the quarterly testing frequency for the subject CSS Pumps (PMP 04/24/49/52) as reflected in the table you provided below is for the current NMP1 IST program plan (fourth 10-year IST Program) and thus, supersedes the information for these pumps on pdf page 163 of the March 13, 2019 submission (ML19072A182).

No further information is requested at this time. Ill give you a heads up when the NRC staffs safety evaluation is ready for issuance.

Rich

We dont submit updates to the IST program on the docket, but we do submit the new interval program plan as you have pointed out. We prefer to not submit the whole program that contains a lot of information not related to the relief request. Also, the program plan can change without a 50.59 so I am not sure it adds much value to your SER considering we can change it very easily. The relief request will be added to the program plan which will add the discussion of the quarterly testing, so it does find its way to the program plan.

Is there a way around not submitting the whole program plan?

Tom

Tom,

Thanks for your quick verification. Page 163 of the supplied ML (see attached) does not match the table excerpt that you provided in your e-mail (i.e., which reflects the quarterly test for these pumps). If it is the current/latest NMP1 IST program (Fifth 10-year interval?), can you provide a copy (or an ML no. as I was not able to find it in ADAMS). That way we could update our record and reference it accordingly in our safety evaluation.

Thanks, Rich

Rich Look at page 163 of the supplied ML. The pumps are there but I dont think it shows a quarterly. Below is a snippet of the page from the current IST program for these pumps that shows a quarterly test. I am guessing the program was updated, but I am not sure. Anyway, the Engineer pulled up the program as shown below and it reflects a quarterly test. Does this answer your question?

Tom,

While the staff recently determined that RAIs were not needed to complete their review of the subject review, they did come across an apparent inconsistency while developing their safety evaluation.Specifically, the Alternative Request CS-RR-02 states that CSS Pumps (PMP-81-04/24/49/52) will continue to perform quarterly tests; however, the quarterly tests for these CSS pumps do not appear to be specified in the NMP1 Fourth 10-year IST Interval Program (ML19072A182). Can you verify whether this is a discrepancy? If needed we can schedule a call to get clarification as appropriate.
