OF MAY 4, 2022, CLOSED MEETING WITH TERRAPOWER, LLC TO DISCUSS THE FUEL CYCLE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS FOR THE NATRIUM REACTOR (EPID NO. L-2021-LRM-0071)

On May 4, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a closed videoconference meeting with TerraPower, LLC (TerraPower) to provide the NRC staff with an overview of the Fuel Cycle Environmental Impacts for the Natrium Reactor. The presentation slides can be found in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML22112A141 and ML22112A142. Participants included personnel from the NRC staff, TerraPower, and General Electric Hitachi.

The public meeting notice for the May 4, 2022, meeting, dated April 15, 2022, can be found at ML22108A058 The Enclosure provides the list of meeting attendees.

The NRC staff began the meeting with an introduction and explanation of logistical information.

During the meeting, TerraPower provided the NRC staff with an overview of the TerraPower Fuel Cycle Environmental Impacts for the Natrium Reactor, including the TerraPower Fuel Cycle Environmental Impacts program scope and elements. The NRC staff asked questions about the information presented and TerraPower representatives responded. Finally, the TerraPower representatives and the NRC staff discussed next steps for future pre-application activities.
