SUMMARY

OF MARCH 30, 2022, PUBLIC MEETING WITH TERRAPOWER, LLC TO DISCUSS THE METEOROLOGICAL DATA AND PLANT WATER SOURCE FOR THE NATRIUM REACTOR (EPID NO. L-2021-LRM-0071)

On March 30, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held an observation public meeting with TerraPower, LLC (TerraPower) to provide the NRC staff with an overview of the meteorological data and plant water source for the Natrium Reactor. The public meeting notice, dated February 17, 2022, can be found in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under Accession No. ML22087A066. The presentation slides can be found at ML22082A222. Participants included personnel from the NRC staff, TerraPower, General Electric Hitachi, Bechtel, Duke Energy, and members of the public. The Enclosure provides the list of meeting attendees.

This pre-application interaction provided background information on the Natrium Reactor and an overview of regulatory information and as well as the potential reuse in some capacities of a meteorological tower and a water supply at the site proposed for the Natrium Reactor near the Naughton Power Plant in Wyoming.

The NRC staff began the public meeting with an introduction and explanation of logistical information. The NRC staff explained that the meeting was an observation meeting and that TerraPower representatives would provide the NRC staff with an overview of the meteorological data and plant water source for the Natrium Reactor.

During the meeting, TerraPower provided information on the draft purpose and need statement, the site selected (Naughton Parcel 19/20), and the meteorological towers and water supply planned for use. The NRC staff gave feedback in response to questions on the subjects presented. At the end of the presentation, the public had an opportunity to ask questions of the NRC staff. The NRC staff asked for feedback, concerns, and any improvements that can be made to the public meeting process, at the closure of the meeting.
