Facility: Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant (DN 50-244) Ontario, New York

Subject:

BOMB THREAT At.9:20 p.m. on October 23, 1979, an unidentified male called the Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation switchboard in Rochester, New York and stated, "There l is a bomb planted in the Ginna Plant in retaliation for the attempted murder on l Highway 490 - you better get out there and shut the plant down." .

Licensee' initiated their Borab Threat Contingency Procedures. The search of the i plant was completed by 12:00 midnight. No bomb was found. The Wayne County '

Sheriff's Office, New York State Police and FBI were notified. .

Media interest is expected because of interest in nuclear power plants. The State of New York has been informed. A press release is not planned by the licensee or the NRC at this time. .

The IAT has been notified. This Preliminary Notification is issued for information only and no further action by IE.is anticipated.

NRC, Region I, (Philade' l phia) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the NRC Headquarters Duty Officer at 0017 a.m. , October 24, 1979.
