PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE -PNO-76-18 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by OIE staff as of 11:30 a. m. on date of this notification.
IT SHOULD BE SPECIFICALLY NOTED THAT THIS NOTIFICATION MAY CONTAIN INFORMATION THAT LATER MAY BE DETERMINED TO BE INACCURATE OR INCONSISTENT. AN OFFICE OF INSPECTION AND ENFORCEMENT NOTIFICATION OF AN INCIDENT OR OCCURRENCE (BLUE SHEET) SUBSEQUENTLY WILL BE ISSUED IF WARRANTED.

UNPLANNED OUTAGE 1
The reactor was shutdown at 5:49 a.m., January 29, 1976 due to an increase in vibration on two low pressure turbine bearings.
The extent of the problem is not yet known.
Examination of the bearings will be accomplished this weekend after turbine disassembly, i
i The length of the outage is not known.
Region I estimates the outage could range from one week to more than a month. A refueling outage is scheduled for March 1976.
Media interest is expected because of the potential extended outage. The I
State of New York has been informed. A press release is not planned.
