Subject:
DAMAGE TO FEEDWATER SYSTEM -
The licensee reported that the turbine was manually tripped at 9:56 a.m.
on June 17, 1975 as a result of excessive feedwater piping vibration.
During startup the flow instability occurred at about 30% power as power level was being increased at the rate of 10% per hour. A visual inspection revealed no apparent damage to pipe restraints *or containment . . . .
- _ penetrations; however, some instrument sensing lines were rendered E l inoperable. Steam generator levels were normal throughout the transient l _m and the reactor remained stable.
(
IE estimates that the plant may be down for at least two days. Licensee evaluations of the problem are in progress.
Media interest is expected because of power outage.
[ The State of New York is being kept informed. A press release is . 8 l not planned. /
OIE received notification on this occurrence by telephone from Mr. C. Platt, RG&E, at 5:15 p.m., 6/17/75.
